Every one of us knows someone who is involved in credit card debt settlement, and who probably has been for years. Looking at the increasing number of people trying to become debt free, I tried to find some ways in which debt could be avoided - or at least be reduced to some extent. It is a common belief that credit cards are easy to use and also give a lot of added benefits. This is valid to some extent, but the truth of the matter is that when we use credit cards, we tend to spend 12 to 18% more than what we do while using cash. So the first thing that should be done in order to keep credit card debts low, is to minimise the use of credit cards. Using plastic money does not increase the savings, but rather increases debt. If the basic objective is to have savings, then the use of credit cards should be reduced and cash should be used because while using credit cards, debt is something which is almost inevitable. If using plastic money is really necessary, then debit cards are always a better option. This way one doesn’t get into debt and the need to get credit card debt help doesn’t arise.
